Manitoba Moose tie it late, win it in OT off a Ville Heinola beauty to defeat the Wolves 3-2

Recap of the game.

The Moose were looking to earn themselves a two-game series sweep of the Wolves after yesterday’s entertaining 5-4 shootout win as they look to put more distance between themselves and Chicago/Iowa as well as to try to gain position on the 4th place Stars.

Pre-game news:

Some news this morning as the Jets announced 2023 1st rounder Colby Barlow was going to join Moose now that his OHL season is done

Lineup news:

Just two changes as Daniel Torgersson drew in for Carson Golder and on the backend Dmitry Kuzmin came in for Dean Stewart.

Moose lineup:

Malott – Lambert – AJF
Suess – Toninato – Chibrikov
Viel – Reichel – Ford
Torgersson – Nikkanen – Liwiski

Capobianco – Barteaux
Heinola –Lundmark
Kuzmin – Bauer

Kyle Capobianco sets a new career high with his 11th goal of the season to put the Moose up 1-0 on the power play. Great screen by Dominic Toninato.

Didn’t know Jets prospect Dmitry Kuzmin had it in him, but he levels a massive hit in his first game back with the Moose in three weeks (or so), let his presence be felt.

Believe this was first penalty shot against the Moose this season and Hudson Elyniuk (son of the former Jets 1.0 forward) gets his second of the game to give Wolves a 2-1 lead in 3rd. Controversial as there was a melee going on during the play and likely should have been whistled dead before chance.

With under one minute left in regulation the Moose tied the game on the power play courtesy of C.J. Suess.

The Wolves, needing a clean two points, actually pulled their goalie to try to earn themselves a win. Instead the game would need OT.

Ville Heinola absolutely took over OT. What a game winner for the Moose defenceman who scores his eighth goal of the campaign to win it 3-2 for Manitoba.

Moose sweep two-game set with the Wolves (although both games needed extra time) and improve to a nine point lead over Chicago for the fifth and final playoff spot (although they have one game in hand). They are also just three points back of the Stars for the 4th spot and potential home ice advantage in the best of three play and you’re in series.

Multi-point game:

Kristian Reichel 2A
