Now just to clarify how bizarre this AHL season is you’ve already got some teams in California playing pre-season games, there is uncertainty surrounding the Flames affiliate in Stockton who we found out three days ago according to hockey insider Darren Dreger could still end up back in Canada and the small matter of the fact that the All-Canadian Division (currently Manitoba, Laval, Toronto & Belleville) is the only division without a schedule for a season that is scheduled to start on February 5th.
Those “small” matters aside, on Sunday the Manitoba Moose set their training camp roster and schedule for the upcoming week. Training camp begins today and the schedule available goes until the 31st with the Moose on the ice at 12 noon each day with the exception of the 27th and 31st.
The roster is a bit more dicey as you’ve got plenty of guys missing (i.e. on the Jets roster or taxi squad) or dealing with quarantine. As part of their news release on Sunday the team announced they had signed Manitoban and goalie Cole Kehler to a one-year deal. The team also announced that they had invited forward Brett Davis and Nick Jones to camp on tryout deals.
For now the roster is as follows:
G: Cole Kehler & Mikhail Berdin
D: Johnny Kovacevic, Jimmy Oligny, Trent Bourque, Luke Green and Declan Chisholm
F: Cole Perfetti, Joona Luoto, Kristian Reichel, Nick Jones, Nathan Todd, Brent Pedersen, Skyler McKenzie and Brett Davis.
The Moose release stresses the fact that more players will be joining the team in the coming days. Here are some of the names missing from when I looked ten days ago at projecting some of the guys who would be at training camp including:
D: Leon Gawanke & Hayden Shaw
F: Marko Dano, Haralds Egle, Biagio Lerario, Bobby Lynch, Cole Maier, Westin Michaud
Worth noting that 2017 5th rounder Leon Gawanke returned to Canada from Germany after the 14th of January so he should likely be done quarantine soon.
Also worth a mention is that three players (C Tyler Graovac, D Ashton Sautner, G Arturs Silovs) assigned by the Canucks as part of a loan agreement aren’t listed.
But as we do every year we will continue to bring you all the latest Manitoba Moose news. Stay tuned for what should be a very interesting season ahead.
