The Moose are back in Manitoba after a long road trip out east which saw them go 3-3-0. They are back home for a pair of games this weekend and have had a few days of practice to get set for the IceHogs.
Practice notes:
Freshly recalled Dmitry Kuzmin was on the ice. The group seemed to be in a good mood with lots of smiling, laughter and chatter amongst the players.
One thing that was notable was the presence of three goalies. I recognized Collin Delia and Oskari Salminen and while I was certain the third wasn’t Jets goalie prospect Thomas Milic who is with Nofolk I wasn’t sure who this mystery goalie was although I had a hunch. Turned out to be correct as it was confirmed to me that it was former Jets draft pick Jason Kasdorf who occasionally fills in as a practice goalie.
Captain’s season most likely over:
Three weeks back we reported that Moose captain Jimmy Oligny would require surgery as he was dealing with an “ACL and an MCL issue”. He was scheduled to have it a little while ago and today I asked bench boss Mark Morrison if he had an update.
“The timeline is going to be six months plus so his season is most likely done. He had surgery and the surgery went really well and now it’s all about his rehab.”
Tough but not unexpected news for the Quebec product who worked his way back from a big injury last season which limited him to 17 games in the 2022-23 season.
