Manitoba Moose assign Oskari Salminen to Norfolk Admirals of the ECHL

The veteran netminder heading down to the ECHL to get his game back on track.

The Moose made the decision this morning assigning 24-year old netminder Oskari Salminen to the Norfolk Admirals of the ECHL. He went 4-7-0 this season with a 3.91 GAA and an .870 save%. Last season with the Moose, which was his first in Manitoba, he went 18-13-6 with a 3.06 GAA and a 896 save%.

Salminen’s last game was January 20th for Manitoba which was going fantastically through 40 minutes against Grand Rapids with his team up 3-0. But the Griffins scored a goal early in the 3rd which was deflected past him and then he was beat on this shot which seemed to just take the wind out of his sails. They would end up giving up four straight including two in 30 seconds in the final minute of the game to lose 4-3. The Finnish netminder hasn’t played since.

With his struggles the AHL affiliate of the Jets recalled goalie prospect and Winnipeg draft pick Thomas Milic. Milic has given the Moose some life after an 11-game losing streak (0-11-1) which had them well below the playoff line. The team left for nine straight road games of which Milic played in six games and going 4-1-1. Manitoba is now back above the playoff line.
