John Stevens signs contract extension

From Bob Cooney of the Philadelphia Daily News:

John Stevens, who in his first full season as coach of the Flyers led them to the Eastern Conference finals, has agreed to a 2-year contract extension, the team announced today.

The extension will run through the 2010-11 season. Financial terms were not disclosed.

“John is deserving of this new contract,” general manager Paul Holmgren said. “He is a very energetic coach who brings a lot of enthusiasm and passion to the game and we look forward to working together over the next few years.”

After the job Stevens did last season, getting the Flyers all the way to the Conference Finals, an extension is not surprising.  The former Phantoms head coach has made an impressive adjustment to the NHL and has earned the respect of his players, management and the fans.
