Winnipeg Jets

Jets captain Adam Lowry eligible for a contract extension as of July 1st; “I picture myself as a Winnipeg Jet for life”

The captain spoke today at the team end of season media availability.

The Jets continued to clean out their lockers today and the first player we heard from this morning was Jets captain Adam Lowry. He said plenty of notable things when chatting with us but one of the questions posed to him was about his contract status beyond this year. He has one season left on his current five-year deal he signed back in 2021 which carried an AAV of 3.25 million.

It was presented to him that he seems like someone who would be a “Jet for life” and was asked if that’s something he’d like to address before next season.

“I love playing in Winnipeg. I’ve been very fortunate to be here my whole career, drafted, played in St. John’s, came up through the ranks and just finished my 11th year here so yeah I think that’s kinda how I picture myself as a Winnipeg Jet for life. I love this city, love playing in front of these fans. I think that’s something that hopefully that we can take steps towards getting that out of the way this summer”.

He went on to say there are other more important pieces to get done (i.e. Jets UFAs and RFAs) but doesn’t “see that being an issue”.

The Albertan concluded his comments with “as long as they want to bring me back I’m more than happy to come back. It’s such a great place to play.”

When GM Kevin Cheveldayoff was asked if signing guys like Lowry and Kyle Connor who will be in the final year of their respective deals next season was something he’d be thinking about later in the summer he had this to say:

“Right now we’ve turned our minds to it. Very open to both of those guys. They’re a big part of our success”

Told a story about how the last time they got an extension done with Lowry he called him a week before the deadline. He said “his heart sank ’cause he thought he was getting traded”. Added he told him he didn’t want to put him through that.

“He is Winnipeg. He is what it embodies”.
