Injury Update: Patrik Laine skates in non-contact uniform at Jets practice

Laine took to the ice with his fellow Jets today.

For fans who have been wondering when they may see Patrik Laine resume skating with his teammates, you can wonder no longer as #29 took to the ice this morning at the MTS Centre.  While he wore a yellow non-contact uniform the positive news was that he was out there skating and doing drills.

Following the skate the 18 year old spoke about how he was feeling “Pretty good.  It was nice to go out there with the team and just getting back into shape and pretty good.”  When asked if he was symptom free the rookie indicated “ya kind of.  It’s easier to work out now and be able to go out on the ice with the team and get back soon.”

When asked about what he remembers about the hit in Buffalo there wasn’t much “I got the puck and that’s it.  Can’t remember anything else.  That’s all.”

Patrik Laine talks about his concussion and recovery.

When coach Maurice was asked about seeing Laine on the ice the Jets bench boss indicated he was “Pleased.  He skated for two days.  He skates in the non-contact today.  There is no extra skate after today and he comes back in tomorrow and if he’s right where he left off and felt good then we would start to push the heart rate a little bit and kinda gradually work up from there.”

On the progression that Laine needs before he is ready to go “he’s got some testing that he’ll have to go back through again before…..but the next phase, you’ll know it, his sweater colour will change.”

“He’s absolutely not getting back into a game until he is at 100% and clear and then I am more interested in getting him in the next game because once a guy is ready to go and he feels good you want it out of his mind, you want to get him back into the flow of feeling good” added the coach on when we may next see Laine in a Jets uniform for a game.

So while we still do not have a timeline on his return it is a good sign that he was back on the ice with the Jets today.  As always keep it locked for any and all Jets news to  illegalcurve.com and on social media including via Twitter | Facebook | Instagram.
