Nightly Hockey Hits

Hockey Hits: Mats Sundin to decide future soon, Scotty Bowman talks NHL rules, Kane drama ends with apology and a closer look at the NHL’s bid for Coyotes.

Mats Sundin will get married and then make a tough decision about whether to return or not, Canucks sign another Veteran, Heatley’s chatter leaves people confused, looking into the NHL’s offer for the Coyotes, Kane taxi drama ends with written apology, Gagne injury update, Rangers fans need specific type of visa to get into party, Scotty Bowman talks NHL rules and Jacques Demers to become a Senator in Ottawa (of the political variety, not hockey).

Some news and notes from across the Blogs:

  • The Hockey News:  Mats Sundin to decide on NHL future shortly after weekend wedding.  Mats is quickly becoming the NHL’s version of Brett Favre.  That being said, I was fine with Favre returning and I’d like to see Mats return for another season, and get a chance to go for the Cup.
  • Canucks Army:  Canucks sign Dave Scatchard and still plan on bringing in more Vets.  As was reported yesterday the Canucks are getting underway signing veteran playersWouldn’t they like to get the guy in tonight’s first story.
  • Silver Seven:   Heatley leaves people with more questions than answers.  That’s a shocker.
  • From the Rink:  A closer look at the NHL’s bid for the Coyotes.  Interesting break down of the numbers involved.
  • T.O. Sports:  Less than impressed with the NHL’s offer of $140 million for the Coyotes.  I completly agree that this feels like the movie Groundhog Day.
  • Fifth Feather:  Kane case ends with an apology.  And likely some $$$$ going one way.
  • Puck Update:  Briere – Good lines come in small packages.  I think a small, fast line would be quite good Flyers.
  • Crash the Crease:  Gagne injury update.  Sounds like he will be back up and skating by camp so that is good news if you are a Flyers fan.
  • Slap Shot:  Ranger fan festival open to only those with a particular credit card.  You would think you would want to open something like this to as many fans as possible but perhaps in N.Y. keeping things exclusive is the way to get things done.
  • Bird Watchers Anonymous:  Scotty Bowman talks NHL rules.  Interesting proposals and he makes a very valid point about allowing playoff finish determine draft order.
  • Sportsnet:  Jacques Demers, the Stanley Cup winning coach, is being promoted by Prime Minister Stephen Harper to the Canadian Senate.   Not sure what his duties as a Senator will entail but he can party with Ken Dryden.

Horse Race:

  • Assiniboia DownsUnfortunately our horse finished 3rd, despite leading the entire race but on a positive note I did meet singing legend Chubby Checker, who was attending the races last night.  To see a race replay click on the 26th, and then race #3.
