The Jets hit the ice for practice on Friday as they prepared for arguably their biggest test of the season when they face the Hurricanes this afternoon in downtown Winnipeg. The defending Stanley Cup champions have raced out to a 6-1-0 start despite dealing with injuries to several key players, including captain Jordan Staal, veteran Taylor Hall and Winnipegger Seth Jarvis.
We learned on Friday that the Jets will be without veteran forward Vlad Namestnikov, who suffered an injury during Thursday’s morning skate in Chicago and is now considered week-to-week. While we expect the team to make a recall from the Moose before heading out on the road, the indication was that Winnipeg would maintain the same forward lines for this afternoon’s game. The only question mark is on the backend, where Jack St. Ivany could remain in the lineup or give way to Tyrel Bauer.

Odds:
Winnipeg heads into this afternoon’s matchup against Carolina with the Hurricanes holding a slight edge as the defending Stanley Cup champions visit Canada Life Centre. The Jets will look to bounce back from their overtime loss in Chicago, while facing a Carolina club that presents a significant test. A strong start, disciplined defensive play and contributions from throughout the lineup will be important if Winnipeg hopes to get back in the win column.
