Game 63: Leafs 5 Jets 4 in OT post-game report

Post-game from the Jets dressing rooms as well as from Coach Maurice.

Notes:

Two goals from Laine moves him up to 30 goals on the season.  Continues to lead rookies in goal scoring and points.  Auston Matthews had three assists including on the OT winner so the Calder Race continues.  Mark Scheifele also had two points which puts him at 62 points (25 G 37 A) on the season, a new career high.

Stats:

Jets and Leafs stats

Audio:

Blake Wheeler:  Assessing the game.  Would he deem the road trip success.  Does he feel good about the way the Jtes are playing heading into the break?  Was there anything particularly disappointing about the loss?  On the physical play resulting in penalties.  On the chances the Jets were able to generate.  What will it mean to get a bit of a breather?  What did Toronto do well tonight?

Patrik Laine:  Did the last OT go through his mind when he got to tonight’s OT?  How does it feel heading into the bye week with his 30th goal?  On the back and forth nature of the game.  Was that game fun to be a part of?  Was 30 goals a goal of his before the start of the year?  On how needed the bye week is for the Jets. Will he pay attention to what is happening in the NHL or will he shut it down?

Bryan Little:  Does the OT loss put a damper on the road trip?  Getting six out of eight points do they feel like they’ve gotten themselves back into it?  How does he sum up that game?  What happened on that in tight chance?

Ben Chiarot:  On the Kadri hit on him.  On the type of hit.  Should something like that be worthy of suspension?  Overall thoughts on the game?  What was it like on the blue line?

Coach Maurice: Assessing the game. Does the loss put a damper on the road trip? Is there a different message going into the break? Given the absences on the blueline how did he feel they played? His thoughts on the Kadri hit on Chiarot. Laine getting to 30 goals. On the rookies living up to the hype.
