Sure enough a kid from Calgary ended the game as Josh Morrissey’s fourth of the season in OT sent Jets fans home happy with a 5-4 OT win. Morrissey’s goal improves Winnipeg to 20-9-2 on the season.

For those who would like to take a deeper dive into the advanced stats here are the results from tonight’s game via Natural Stat Trick.

Game play:

– The Oilers took advantage of a Jack Roslovic turnover in the Jets zone to open the scoring;
– On the power play Mathieu Perreault made a series of nifty moves to tie the game;
– 1:08 later Nikolaj Ehlers, perhaps trying to make a slap pass to 33, banked in the go ahead goal off an Oilers D man.
– Jets outshot the Oilers 16-11 after 20 minutes.

– Dustin Byfuglien made a few nice plays and eventually got the puck to Patrik Laine who powered it home;
– The Oilers got within one when Nurse put the rebound past Connor Hellebuyck;
– They tied it up when Jesse Puljujarvi puts the puck on net and it deflects off Khaira’s leg and in.
– With Patrik Laine in the box, McDavid found Chiasson and the Oilers held a 4-3 lead;
– Oilers outshot the Jets 13-6 and have a 24-22 shot edge after 40 minutes.

– Winnipeg came out in the final frame with a number of chances to equalize the game;

–  They held the Oilers to just two shots in the final frame;
– Overall the Jets outshot the Oilers 17-2 and took a 39-26 shot edge into OT.

Coach Maurice:  What did he like about the 3rd period?  Did he like how the team handled Connor McDavid?  Did the coaching staff have to tweak the gameplan in the final frame?  On giving Lowry’s line the assignment of covering McDavid.  More on covering McDavid.  On shot attempts.
