Friedman Report: Former Winnipeg Jets goalie Eric Comrie to sign with the Sabres

Coming into the 2021-22 season there were some question marks about Jets backup goalie Eric Comrie who has been part of the Jets/Moose organization since he was drafted by Winnipeg in 2013.  His work in the AHL with the Moose was record-setting and he had the faith of most who were paying attention to be able to make the jump to the NHL with the opportunity presented by Laurent Brossoit’s signing in Vegas.

The 2013 2nd rounder was more than up for the task playing 19 games for the Jets this season with a 10-5-1 record. He finished the campaign with a 2.58GAA and a .920 save %.

The Jets made a mistake in that they needed Comrie to play three more games (averaging 30 minutes per game) in order to avoid him from becoming an unrestricted free agent this summer. So instead of being an RFA under team control he was set to become a UFA today.

Once free agency opened it was announced by Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet that he was heading to Buffalo. His agent has confirmed that it will be a two year deal with an AAV of 1.8 million.

The Jets will face Comrie for the first time in Buffalo on January 10th and then fans in Winnipeg will see him in an opposing uniform on March 31st.

This currently leaves Winnipeg without a backup netminder (unless they chose to use current Moose goalie Mikhail Berdin in that spot).
