Dreger Report: Former Winnipeg Jets forward Andrew Copp expected to sign with Red Wings

Who says you cannot go home again? According to TSN insider Darren Dreger former Jets forward Andrew Copp is set to sign with his home state Detroit Red Wings. Here was his tweet regarding the centre from Ann Arbor, Michigan:

Back to hockey. Unless something shifts, all indications suggest Andrew Copp will sign with the Detroit Red Wings. Good player who will likely command $5 mil + on a 4-6 year term. We’ll soon find out.

Some folks thought (probably should say hoped) he could even be an option back in Winnipeg but that seemed unlikely given the 2013 4th rounder was expected to cash in with this contract.

Given the above Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff did pretty well turning a guy who was becoming a UFA into:

Morgan Barron, Brad Lambert (2022 1st) and Elias Salomonsson (2022 2nd) and a 5th rounder in 2023.

If this info proves to be accurate the Jets will face Copp for the first time in Detroit on January 10th and then fans in Winnipeg will see him in an opposing uniform on March 31st.
