Former Winnipeg Jets defenceman Mark Stuart joining Oilers coaching staff

Former Dman heading to Edmonton.

Folks around Winnipeg will remember Jets defenceman Mark Stuart well after he spent six seasons in Manitoba following relocation from Atlanta. The Minnesota product was a Bruins first rounder back in 2003 who joined Boston full time for the 2007-08 season.

His final NHL season was with the Jets in 2016-17 before he played one last year pro in Germany with the Mannheim Eagles of the DEL.

Following his retirement from pro hockey Stuart spent some time working in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose. He thereafter joined former Jets assistant coach (now head coach at Vermont) Todd Woodcroft as a volunteer assistant coach with the Catamounts for the 2020-21 season.

After that season he went to Colorado College (where he spent three years as a student athlete) to work as an assistant coach of his alma mater.

The Oilers announced today that he will be joining their staff as an assistant. Todd Woodcroft’s brother Jay is the head coach in Edmonton.
