Former Winnipeg Jets defenceman Dustin Byfuglien unlikely to play in the NHL again

Doesn’t look like 33 will be back in the NHL for the 2020-21 season.

On Saturday night during the intermission of game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Stars and Lightning in the Headlines segment insider Elliotte Friedman was asked about the status of former Jets defenceman Dustin Byfuglien for next season after he didn’t play during the 2019-20 season and which ended with the mutual termination of his Jets contract back in April.

“It’s very unlikely Dustin Byfuglien’s going to play. Teams have asked. One of the teams that have asked is the Minnesota Wild. They figured because Byfuglien obviously has a lot of ties to Minnesota he’d want to play there and they could use him. They’re probably the only team that has a chance but I checked with Byfuglien’s agent, Ben Hankinson, and he said it’s doubtful that Byfuglien will play again, a shame because his personality would be great.”

Which shouldn’t come as a big surprise but does seem to confirm that big number 33 will not be roaming the ice for any NHL squads next season.
