Former Jets prospect Michael Spacek signs with Finnish hockey team Tappara

With the NHL/AHL re-start for the 2020-21 season pushed to December a number of players who are under contract with North American clubs are signing overseas with out clauses which would allow them to return to Canada or the United States when the new season gets underway.  We saw it happen today when the Detroit Red Wings announced they had loaned 2019 1st rounder (6th overall) Moritz Seider to Mannheim.

It was also announced today by Finnish hockey club Tappara that they had signed Jets 2015 4th rounder Michael Spacek to a contract.

2019-20 was an unusual season for the Czech forward who had a productive 2018-19 season and got off to a good start this year including an unexpected (to me) recall up to the Jets.  He was eventually returned to the Moose but just didn’t seem to be able to find any consistency.  In March the Jets and Kings agreed to swap prospects (not as a trade but as a reassignment) with Spacek heading to play for the Ontario Reign and left-shot defenceman Daniel Brickley coming back to Manitoba.

Spacek will be an RFA at the end of this season.  I suspect this season was the last time we see him in a Jets or Moose uniform.
