We reported earlier today that word came from Elliotte Friedman that the Jets could be adding Dean Chynoweth to the fold and now Darren Dreger confirmed that hire and added that the team had also hired Davis Payne.
Payne is a BC product who was drafted by the Oilers back in 1989 (7th round). He played 22 NHL games with the Bruins before he made the switch to coaching. After starting in the ECHL and spending three seasons in the AHL he has been in the NHL for the last 15 years ending with the Senators last season.
He made the jump to the NHL with the Blues going from their AHL club to the NHL back in 2009-10. He spent three seasons as head coach of St. Louis before he moved on to join the Kings staff for five years which including winning a Stanley Cup on the 2013-14 team. He would head to Buffalo to join the Sabres for two seasons before ending up in Ottawa the last five years.
