Here’s the latest hockey news late this afternoon:
- William Houston goes to town on his old colleague at the Globe & Mail for accepting the offer to carry the Olympic torch. Wow. Houston does not hold back in this piece. I personally don’t think it is as big of a deal as people are making it out to be, but Houston’s take is certainly worth the read.
- Brodeaur is Fraud looks the effect the lockout had on the play of a number of NHL netminders. Interesting read that he sure put a lot of work into.
- Kevin Allen takes a look at the success of relatively unknown rookie Ryan O’Reilly in Colorado. This kid is smart and plays the game the right way. Sure Craig Anderson is the main reason for the Avs’ early season success, but players like O’Reilly, Galliardi, Duchene and Quincey have played a large part as well.
- Greg Wyshynski provides some opinions from around Arizona on the Coyotes sale. Interesting quotes in there. To me though, it is amazing how such a huge story in the summer is hardly getting any attention when it finally reaches its final, at least temporary, resolution.
- SI writer Michael Farber chimes in on Dustin’s Penner emergence under Pat Quinn, the effect of the Ilya Kovalchuk injury on Atlanta’s progress, and much more. That is what I love about Pat Quinn teams–they always play hard for him.
- It looks like Los Angeles is going to host the NHL Entry Draft in 2010 (Thanks to Spector for the find). With the Kings playing so well and it being a June Entry Draft, I’m sure the California faithful will be flocking to sit indoors for a few hours to look at 18 year olds in suits….
