Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose news.

Note:  Following yesterday’s 2-1 loss against the Rangers the Jets will chat with the media before departing for Alberta for back to back contests against the Flames on Saturday and Oilers on Sunday.

Note II:  The Moose finally hit the ice for a game day skate this morning before they take on the Cleveland Monsters tonight at the MTS Centre.  Puck drops at 7 pm.

Jets news:

TSN:  Mark Chipman named to NHL executive committee.  Perhaps he can make changing that schedule his coach hates his first priority.  Jokes aside the NHL executive committee is there to look after the best interests of the league as an entity.

ESPN:  Hot or Not: Connor McDavid, Patrik Laine top our latest under-24 rankings.  No real surprise to see either name atop this list.

Winnipeg Sun:  Not much to like in Jets’ latest loss.  Wonder what the narrative would have been had Stafford not taken that penalty to set up the Rangers power play opportunity.

Winnipeg Free Press:  ‘It was not our best game’.  (Paywall).  That headline rings true although there were some players who stepped up and had a decent game.  Jeff breaks it all down for you.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Learning experience.  (Paywall).  Hard to find solace in a loss when you leave the MTS Centre without any points.

Winnipeg Free Press:  There’s simply too much skill to not favour Jets.  (Paywall).  There is certainly plenty of skill on this roster but they are falling just short in many of these tight contests against solid competition, which bodes well for the future but maybe not the present.

New York Daily News:  Kevin Hayes’ late-game heroics give Rangers 2-1 edge over Jets.  Read about the game from a Rangers beat writer.

Edmonton Journal:  Jets rookie scoring sensation Patrik Laine a mix of talent and confidence.  Good read on the Jets rookie and how is being seen from folks outside this market.

TSN:  Overdrive.  (Video).  TSN Senior Correspondent Gary Lawless joined the guys on OverDrive Thursday to discuss his recent article saying that Patrik Laine will end up a superior player to Auston Matthews.  You can read the article they are arguing about below.

TSN:  Laine will end up a superior player to Matthews  After less than 30 NHL games I’m not sure I’m ready to project what one or the other will do by the end of their careers in the year 2030 something.  Both franchises got what they needed in the player they selected.

Rangers 2 Jets 1:

Illegal Curve:  Post-game recap.  Includes post-game audio from Blake Wheeler, Mark Scheifele, Drew Stafford, Nikolaj Ehlers, Michael Hutchinson and coach Maurice.

Moose news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Stoykewych improving by leaps & bounds.  Watching him play this season you can really see the improvements in his game this season.
