Here are the morning papers for Monday the 2nd of March:
- “I have no intentions of trading him,” says Ducks GM Bob Murray about Scott Niedermayer.
- Mike Knobler of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution looks at who might be traded out of Atlanta.
- The Bruins drive to the net as well as any team in the NHL. Another reasons for the Bruins recent success is that the team’s power play has broken out of its slump.
- John Vogl of the the Buffalo News details the absolutely horrible offensive numbers from the Sabres’ top two lines.
- No one was happier than Craig Conroy to see Jarome Iginla become the Flames’ all-time leading scorer. Iginla was his usual classy self when answering questions post-game. Unfortunately for Calgary fans, the Flames lost last night’s tilt to the Lightning. Here is the timeline of Jarome Iginla’s career.
- Chip Alexander has an interesting article about Hurricanes assistant coach Kevin McCarthy and his adjustment from coaching behind the bench to being moved upstairs.
- Jonathan Toews is on fire, and his hot play continued yesterday afternoon when he led the Hawks to a 4-2 home victory over Los Angeles.
- With the Avalanche visiting Long Island, Terry Frei gets Ryan Smyth to recount his trade to NY.
- The Columbus power play continued its season long slump, as the Blue Jackets lost 3-1 at Vancouver on Sunday night. Are the Blue Jackets shopping Pascal Leclaire?
- With just about a quarter of the season remaining, the Stars appear to have hit a wall, writes Mike Heika.
- Don’t expect the Wings to make any deals at the deadline. That said, a deal is still possible.
- There has yet to be an update on Ethan Moreau’s eye condition. Terry Jones goes through the entire Oilers roster and talks about who is and isn’t available. Dennis Grebeshkov played well in his return to the lineup on Saturday night.
- The Panthers had a great bounce back effort on Sunday, as they defeated the Capitals 6-2.
- The Kings have slumped lately and now they sit closer to the bottom of the Western Conference than the top.
- Doug Risebrough’s phone hasn’t exactly been ringing off the hoot, writes Michael Russo. Apparently Marian Gaborik’s hip has healed.
- Since being suspended, Tomas Plekanec has comeback on fire for the Habs. Jaroslav Halak is currently a hero in Montreal.
- Pekka Rinne says his seasoning in the AHL has helped him not get tired in the NHL.
- Martin Brodeur is blowing people’s minds with the quality of his play since his return to the net.
- Bill Guerin still hasn’t been traded, but Montreal is being tossed out as his possible landing spot. Is Scott Gordon catering too much to his young players?
- Seam Avery could be in the Rangers lineup very soon. This writer thinks Avery’s return to the lineup could be trouble for the Rangers. Tom Renney made sure to clarify a few of the comments he made right after being fired.
- Chris Neil’s agent is trying a last ditch effort to get his client a contract with the Senators prior to the deadline. If the Senators were offered Pascal Leclaire for Antonine Vermette, they’d probably pass.
- With such a tight cap situation, the Flyers have to proceed cautiously at the deadline. Simon Gagne is happy his hand isn’t broken.
- After beating Dallas on Sunday, the Penguins finally find themselves in playoff position in the Eastern Conference. Sidney Crosby could return to the Penguins lineup next game.
- Veteran, and most likely soon to be dealt, Mark Recchi had five assists in his team’s crazy 8-6 victory at Calgary yesterday evening. Did you know Recchi has 45 points this season? Jarome Iginla had all the spotlight, but Vincent Lecavalier scored his 300th career NHL goal last night.
- Brian Burke tells Leafs fans not to expect a complete team facelift on Wednesday. Apparently there hasn’t really been much interest in Tomas Kaberle.
- The Canucks played a playoff style game in defeating the Blue Jackets at home last night. The Jackets only mustered nine shots in the first two periods.
- The Capitals were just really bad on Sunday, writes Tarik El-Bashir. Losing by four goals at home is Bruce Boudreau’s worst defeat since taking over the team last season.
