Standings as of April 5, 2013

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  A ‘miracle’ Redmond back on the ice.  He went from life threatening condition, to recuperation to coming to see his team mates to skating with the injured Jets players.  Quite a remarkable young man.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Weak, flat, Jets no longer on topThe Jets have nine games remaining to show fans exactly who this team is.  Whether that is a playoff bound team or a team needing massive change, we shall see soon.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Wheeler’s disallowed goal symbolic of frustrating timesI felt like I was time warped back to 1999 and suddenly we were using Brett Hull standards.  Wheeler was marginally in the crease but it certainly didn’t appear that he interfered with Peter Budaj.  Even so, a team has to be able to handle something like a disallowed goal, and continue to push.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Trounced by Habs, fall out of playoff spotHowever you want to spin in the above standings do not lie.  They tell a tale of a team that has fallen from grace by virtue of five straight losses.

CBC:  Can Jets find a heartbeat at homeThey have no other options.  They play next six games at the friendly confines of the MTS Centre and if they cannot reverse this five game losing streak into some sort of  significant winning streak, they know their season is over.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets lose 5th straightCan the season be saved?  Absolutely but it is going to take a lot as the buffer the Jets had built for themselves has evaporated.

Winnipeg Sun:  Late season collapse typicalPaul covers the lack of movement made by Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff, past haunting Jets present, Buff, Burmistrov, missed opportunities and what is happening on the farm.
Alex Burmistrov wm

Winnipeg Sun:  Buff’s not the stuffIt was certainly an interesting post-game chat with the media from coach Claude Noel following the loss.  He certainly didn’t mince words.  This quote was the most telling I thought of how coach Noel felt about Big Buff, “This isn’t the first time that they have put a puck at the net and he is standing beside the guy without taking stick, so after awhile you just can’t continue down that road. If you’re not going to make changes, don’t play!”.

Globe and Mail:  Jets try to hold a fragile division lead despite lack of playoff-hardened playersThis article came out just before puck drop last night but it discusses the number of players who haven’t yet played a single playoff game in the NHL on this team.
