Note: Tune into NHL Mid-Week with Illegal Curve Hockey tonight on TSN Radio 1290 from 6 pm to 7 pm. Guest: Frank Provenzano (Dallas Stars Assistant GM).
Jets news:
Winnipeg Free Press: Pavelec key to complete games for the Jets. He brought the Pavelectricity last night and as I said on Jets on a Deadline, I am not sure how he was not voted a star of the game. He was terrific and perhaps made his biggest save of the game following the Jets early goal, when the team gave up a good chance almost immediately and Ondrej made the stop.
Winnipeg Free Press: ‘Joy back into your life’. One game does not make a season, but the Jets deserve to celebrate after playing a pretty mistake free game. There are still improvements to be made and it should be pointed out that they beat a Buffalo team that is fading quickly, but it was a solid start to the road trip. Next up are the Southeast leading Hurricanes.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets-Sabres game stars. I am 100% with Ed on these selections. How Pavelec and Wheeler both missed out on being game stars is beyond me. While the 3 Star selection is fairly meaningless, in this case both of these two deserved the recognition for their effort.
TSN: Doing the tough stuff to earn road win in Buffalo. It was a terrific 60 minute road effort by the Jets. Starting with Pavelec and right through to the forwards and defence, the team collectively played very well.
Winnipeg Sun: Dustin Byfuglien goes up front on power play. For all the fans who have been calling for Big Buff to move up front you finally got your wish.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets go on the road to find cure for struggles. Blake Wheeler was a different player last night. He was literally everywhere on the ice and while he didn’t end up with any points (or in the 3 stars) he had six shots and finished plus one. Friesen also discusses Kane’s hustle, Slater’s moves, Ladd’s hot, Jokinen cold, Postma’s errors and the play of Clitsome.
Illegal Curve: Jets on a Deadline – Jets 2 Sabres 1. Game recaps, video highlights and the NHL.com 3 Stars of the night.
NHL news:
Chicago Sun-Times: Blackhawks match all-time NHL record. While they could not be happy giving up a 3-1 lead late in the 3rd to the Canucks, it must have been especially sweet for Chicago to score this record tying victory against Vancouver.
Calgary Sun: Giordano fined $10,000 for slew-foot. A big fine for the Flames defenceman and in case you missed it, here is the video of the move which cost him 10K.
Video of the Night – Red Wings Datsyuk goes through five:
It was a pleasure watching the Wizard work his magic, although I’m not sure what I enjoyed more in this video, Datsyuk’s skill in scoring this goal or Ken Daniels going bananas after he realizes the goal went in.
