Brian Kilrea will only coach one more season

The Ottawa 67’s will only have Brian Kilrea behind the bench for one more season.

The 73-year-old has announced that this will be his final year coaching the Ontario Hockey League team. He plans to keep his role as general manager.

Kilrea will be succeeded by current assistant coach Chris Byrne next season.

“I always knew this day would come and I never looked forward to it,” said 67’s owner Jeff Hunt. “Brian Kilrea, more than any other person, is the face of the Ottawa 67’s, behind the bench and in the community.

There hasn’t been a more famous coach in junior hockey than Brian Kilrea.  He has been churning out talent for years and years, but more importantly, he has been churning out quality human beings.  The OHL will surely feel his loss, but his effect on the junior ranks will be felt for years and years ahead.
