Tanner Glass: “Dan Carcillo is a donkey”

Jets’ Tanner Glass responds to comments made about him by Hawks agitator Dan Carcillo in July.

When the Chicago Blackhawks held a press conference in July to announce the signing of Dan Carcillo, it was an especially memorable one. In WWE style fashion, Carcillo took the time to specifically call out a few Vancouver Canucks players. Carcillo, a scrappy player, who has had 13, 17 and 22 fights over the three most recent NHL seasons, was brought in by Hawks GM Stan Bowman for some added grit.

It was clear Carcillo had not been keeping up to date with Sportscentre, as he said former Canucks Tanner Glass (now with Winnipeg), Raffi Torres (Phoenix) and current Canuck Maxim Lapierre played “outside their shoes” and “I think I can keep most of these guys in check when we play them this year.”

Carcillo will suit up for his first game on Thursday versus the Jets after serving a suspension for yelling at officials during the last season’s playoffs.

On the Jets side, Glass was surprised when he heard the comments from Carcillo.

“He should probably figure out what team I’m on before he starts doing stuff like that. The funny thing is, I’ve asked him to fight before, and he said no.  It’s kind of surprising that he called me out in the media.”

“I have no pre-existing relationship with him. He’s a donkey; everyone knows he’s a donkey, that’s just his thing.”

Glass and Carcillo have never fought previously, but Winnipeg fans could have their answer to the trivia question “First Winnipeg Jets fight” come Thursday.

“I imagine something will probably happen, I’m not too worried about that right now; I’m worried about beating them.”

The puck drops Thursday at 7:30 PM on TSN Jets and TSN Radio 1290.
