Latest on Josh Morrissey and Vlad Namestnikov from Winnipeg Jets head coach Scott Arniel

Following yesterday’s morning skate, the bench boss provided an update on his two IR players.

With the Jets having Monday off, we expected to get updates from head coach Scott Arniel yesterday on injured defenceman Josh Morrissey, who was hurt against the Avalanche back on October 7th, as well as forward Vlad Namestnikov, who sustained an injury during practice on October 15th.

Morrissey was spotted on the ice ahead of Tuesday’s morning skate, working with skills coach Matt Larke as the Jets prepared to face the Panthers.

When Arniel was asked for an update on Morrissey and whether he remained week-to-week, he indicated:

“He’ll be on the road trip. Not saying that he’ll be in, but he will be coming on the road trip. But we’re still week-to-week on him. Vladdy is still out for a while.”

Arniel added that Namestnikov remains in a brace.

With the Jets travelling today before playing back-to-back games on Thursday and Friday, followed by a scheduled day off Saturday and an afternoon game Sunday, it seems unlikely Morrissey will return during the first three games of the trip. That would make Tuesday’s game in Montreal a more realistic possibility, as it would give him an opportunity to participate in a full team practice on Monday before potentially returning to the lineup.

With the Jets mired in a six-game losing streak (0-4-2), they could certainly use the return of No. 44 to the lineup sooner rather than later. That’s especially true when it comes to a power play that has gone ice cold in his absence, having failed to convert on 14 straight opportunities over the last five games.
