The Jets are in Colorado Springs doing some team building and practicing before the regular season gets underway on Tuesday. They continue to get closer to the 23-man roster, which needs to be set by tomorrow afternoon, with today’s move placing Danny Zhilkin and Henry Thrun on waivers for purposes of assignment to the Moose as per Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Free Press.

I’m a little surprised the Jets sent Danny Zhilkin down. I thought he looked good on the fourth line alongside Cole Koepke and in a penalty-killing role.
As I said on our show yesterday, the 2022 third-rounder, who was seen as a first-line centre in the AHL, should be ahead of players like Nino Niederreiter and Vladislav Namestnikov. He fits into the Jets’ long-term plans, but clearly the organization doesn’t see it that way.
That leaves the Jets with 27 players left at camp (although it’s 24 since three are dealing with injuries). They are:

D (1o): Dylan DeMelo, Neal Pionk, Jack St. Ivany, Haydn Fleury, Mario Ferraro, Josh Morrissey, Dylan Samberg, Elias Salomonsson (inj), Garrett Brown (inj), Tyrel Bauer
F (15): Vladislav Namestnikov, Alex Iafallo, Gabriel Vilardi, Adam Lowry, Isak Rosén, Brayden Yager, Morgan Barron, Cole Koepke, Mark Scheifele, Viggo Björck, Nino Niederreiter, Walker Duehr (inj), Kyle Connor, Cole Perfetti, Brad Lambert.
The Jets have until tomorrow to be roster compliant.
