Winnipeg Jets trade RFA David Gustafsson to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Jack St. Ivany

The Gus Bus is heading east in a swap between the Jets and Pens.

The Jets had until 4 PM CT to send qualifying offers to their restricted-free agents, one of which was centre David Gustafsson but instead the team announced that they had sent the player affectionately known as the ‘Gus Bus’ to the Penguins for defenceman Jack St. Ivany.

Both players were drafted in 2018 by their respective teams with Gustafsson being a 2nd round pick and St. Ivany getting his name called in the 4th round (by the Flyers).

Gustafsson played 149 regular season games in a Jets jersey during his time in Winnipeg but none in this past season while also suiting up for 136 regular season games in a Moose uniform.

Meanwhile St. Ivany 6’4″ is a right-shot defenceman out of California who has 53 NHL games under his belt including 20 during the 2025-26 season. He is under contract for next season at 850K and is thereafter a UFA.
