Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers: Today’s Hockey Headlines | June 28, 2026

A daily roundup of Jets, Moose coverage — all the pro hockey news that matters in Manitoba and beyond.

Note: The NHL Draft concluded yesterday with Winnipeg making six additional selections after taking Viggo Björck in the first round on Friday, further bolstering the organization’s prospect pipeline. Be sure to check out the post-draft comments of Director of Amateur Scouting Mark Hillier. For a complete recap of everything the Jets did in Buffalo, check out our full draft roundup here.

Note II: Today is the calm before the storm in Jetsland. Monday is the deadline for teams to issue qualifying offers to their restricted free agents. It’s also the start of the Jets’ Development Camp (although the on-ice portion doesn’t begin until Tuesday), which runs through Friday. While the schedule has already been released, the full camp roster is expected to be announced later today. Then comes Wednesday, when NHL free agency opens. Needless to say, it’s shaping up to be a whirlwind week.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Hillier high on Jets latest draft picks. As I indicated in the note above, he was the most effusive I’ve ever heard him since he took over in the late teens about a prospect when he was discussing Viggo Björck.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets restock pipeline following Day 2 of NHL Draft. Biggest surprise was adding two more goalie prospects to the fold although that seemed to be on the minds of a lot of GMs as close to 30 netminders were selected.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets iron out crease depth on day 2 of NHL draft. (Paywall). Winnipeg went on a run of selecting goaltenders in the 2016–19 drafts before taking a few years off from drafting netminders. The two they picked in 2022 (DiVincentiis) and 2023 (Milic) are now in their second and third pro seasons respectively, so it made sense to add more to the amateur ranks.

The Athletic Winnipeg: What the Winnipeg Jets’ draft says about their priorities going forward. (Paywall). In this article Murat looks at whether drafting goalies means change is coming, he goes into the latest on Connor Hellebuyck, Cheveldayoff naming Winnipeg’s biggest need, Björck and Yager as well as a look at the Jets depth chart.
