Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers: Today’s Hockey Headlines | June 16, 2026

A daily roundup of Jets, Moose coverage — all the pro hockey news that matters in Manitoba and beyond.

Note: The Jets are done. The Moose are done. We will still try to get you anything relevant to the pro hockey clubs of Manitoba during the next little bit. Of course the big focus is on the 2026 NHL Draft for which the Jets hold the 8th overall selection in just under two weeks time. We will be spending quite a bit of time learning about the players who could hear their name get called by Winnipeg. You can also check out our chat with Craig Button as it pertains to the pick here. We will be at the Jets Draft Party on Friday, June 26th doing a live first round broadcast so be sure you’re following along on our YouTube channel.

Note II: On what was the first day of the post-Stanley Cup portion of the season the Jets got one of their UFAs inked signing South Dakota’s Walker Duehr to a two-year contract extension. That means that Winnipeg is down from eight UFAs to six after they signed Walker and Cole Koepke before him back in mid April.

Jets news:

Global News: NHL entry draft could help Winnipeg Jets ‘turn down the noise’. An interesting thought from Kelly on how the franchise could change the perception right now with so much noise surrounding it. Selecting the Manitoban would certainly be a good PR move and more importantly an important one for the future of the Jets blueline.

Illegal Curve Hockey Show: Saturday PodcastWe discussed the latest Connor Hellebuyck speculation, debated whether the Jets should keep the 8th overall pick in the upcoming NHL Draft, and examined whether the organization needs to commit to a clear direction rather than straddling the line between competing and retooling. We also touched on the Stanley Cup Final and looked ahead to the NHL Draft and the key storylines Jets fans should be watching.

Stanley Cup:

CBC: ‘Greatest moment of my life’: Winnipeg’s Seth Jarvis gets his name on Stanley Cup. The Winnipegger and his band of merry men had quite the run over the last two months.
