The Moose left BC with a split against the Canucks in Abbotsford and were looking to turn things around after a 4-1 regulation loss.
Lineup news:
Tonight saw the return of centre David Gustafsson who had missed the last seven straight games with injury. With his return Tyson Empey came out. After Thomas Milic had started three straight games, fellow goalie prospect Domenic DiVincenetiis got the net this evening against the Wranglers.
Moose lineup:
Shaw-Ford-Di Giuseppe
JAD-Yager-Chibrikov
Fagemo-Gustafsson*-Duehr
Barlow-Zhilkin-Julien
Sautner-Bauer
Phillips-Anhorn
Clague-Barteaux
DiVincentiis
Notable:
Just over a year after these two had a heavyweight tilt, Tyrel Bauer and Alex Gallant drop them for another big battle in Calgary. Defence optional as these two just chuck em just 14 seconds into the game.
Jets prospect Brayden Yager scored a power play goal to put the Moose up 1-0 in the 1st period with this wrister (his 9th of season). Gives him 3G in last 7 games (along with 3A during this time). Moose, who have not had much PP success this season, have a power play goal in 4 of 5.
Looking at the boxscore for the 2nd period and I was reflecting that I wasn’t sure in the 11 seasons I’ve been covering the Moose if I could ever recall them allowing SIX goals in ONE period. Which is just what happened as the Wranglers took over the game with six goals on 12 shots. Turned out I was right about my hunch. You have to go back to the final AHL season before the team moved to St. John’s when they last gave up six in one period.
Walker Duehr scored against his old team picking up his 13th of the season off this deflection. It was an all-Swede ?? assists line as Samuel Fagemo and David Gustafsson* drew the apples which set a new career high in points for the Gus Bus who got his 31st point of season (9G 22A).
If you go by the 1st & 3rd periods the Moose outscored the Wranglers 2-1. But they say hockey is a three period sport (or more) as 2nd period was costly being outscored 6-0. Back-to-back regulation losses (first time since early Feb).
Multi-point game:
Samuel Fagemo 2A
