Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets took Tuesday off as they tried to get their heads back on straight after a disappointing game in Utah on Monday which means we didn’t get an update on captain Adam Lowry who left their game on Monday after the 1st period and did not return. Now the team didn’t make a recall from the AHL but since Mason Appleton was called a game-time decision by head coach Scott Arniel the other day it’s possible they’d have a forward available if 17 is unavailable. Morning skate gets underway at 12:30 PM CST so stay tuned for the pre-game report to ensure you’re up-to-date on the latest. Puck drop is at 8:30 PM CST.

Note II: Join us live at Boston Pizza on Taylor Avenue for an IC Watch Party which gets underway when the game starts. If you can’t join us in person you can join us on our YouTube channel for the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show around 11:10 PM CST as we discuss and analyze the results of the game between Winnipeg and Colorado.

Note III: The Moose skated on Tuesday after taking the day off on Monday as they look to get back on track following a disappointing weekend set with the Marlies. They’ve got two games against the Griffins which begins on Thursday. We got updates yesterday on a pair of Jets prospects which was a good news/bad news situation. Jets 2022 2nd rounder Elias Salomonsson, who was in a non-contact uniform, won’t play the next two games but might be ready for a game on the road trip as he works his way from a tough upper-body injury. That was the good news. The bad news is that 2021 2nd rounder Nikita Chibrikov is going to be out for awhile after sustaining a lower-body injury on Sunday. Manitoba will be back on the ice today for another day of practice at 10:30 AM CST.

Jets news:

Global News: What moves will Winnipeg Jets GM Cheveldayoff make at deadline? Suspect we see some big moves before the deadline.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets GM stands up for Stanley. (Paywall). Mike sat down with Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff for over an hour and of course one of the biggest topics (literally) was the sixth D man on the roster.

Winnipeg Free Press: Chevy interested in Toews comeback starting with Jets. (Paywall). Three Stanley Cup rings and a pedigree of winning. But what’s he got left in the tank? Sounds like the Jets GM is interested to find out.

TSN: Chat with Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff. During the 1st intermission of the game in Utah play-by-play voice Dan Robertson spoke with Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff which we’ve transcribed here. He was asked six questions covering Scott Arniel as head coach, team culture, if he feels need to be more aggressive at trade deadline with core in their prime, if team is more ready for playoffs, whether any conversations have begun with upcoming UFA Nikolaj Ehlers and more.
