Note: Three weeks to the day that Scott Arniel was introduced as head coach of the Jets he has rounded out his staff as we learned on Monday that he had hired former Leafs assistant coach Dean Chynoweth (more here) as well as former Senators assistant coach Davis Payne (more here). Later in the day the bench boss of Winnipeg was on 680 CJOB and provided plenty of insight into his two new assistants which you can read here.
Note II: There was some news about a former Jets/Moose coach as Columbus announced they had relieved Pascal Vincent of his head coaching duties for the Blue Jackets after a very tough year in Ohio.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ Scott Arniel finds right mix of success, experience and enthusiasm with assistant hires. Scott provides some more insight from the head coach on the new hires.
Winnipeg Free Press: Elias Salomonsson ready to take on the NHL. (Paywall). While I still think he’ll be getting his feet wet in North America to start in the American Hockey League that doesn’t mean it’s impossible he’ll plays some NHL games for Winnipeg during the 2024-25 campaign. Worth remembering he was one of the last cuts from training camp last September.
Winnipeg Free Press: Scott Arniel rounds out Jets coaching ranks with Chynoweth, Payne. (Paywall). Wieber also provides some insight on the new faces on the Jets bench.
Global News: Jets GM has his work cut out for him on the free agency front. The problem for Winnipeg is that it is Winnipeg and that’s not me being a self-hating Winnipegger. Just someone who is realistic and knows that Manitoba isn’t top spot for free agents. Which is why folks are a tad surprised that some of the team’s UFAs haven’t yet been signed because once they get to the open market it seems unlikely they’ll be back in Jets colours for next season (and beyond).
