Reflecting on the 2023-24 Manitoba Moose season with the AHL’s outstanding defenceman Kyle Capobianco

We spoke with the Ontario product who had a big season with the Moose.

Two years ago the Jets signed Kyle Capobianco to a two-year deal adding the left-shot defenceman to the fold. He would get into 14 games with Winnipeg during the 2022-23 campaign but this past season with the D corp for the NHL club healthy, he spent the entirety of the 2023-24 season in the AHL with the Moose.

He played in 69 of 72 games for Manitoba this season providing plenty of offence from the backend. He set career highs in games played, goals (12), assists (42) and points (54). He finished the season in first place in the AHL for points amongst blueliners. His play on the ice was recognized by the American Hockey League as he was named to the 2023-24 AHL First All-Star Team. Just five days later he became just the second ever Moose defender to have been voted the Eddie Shore Award winner as the AHL’s outstanding defenceman.

He’s a group 6 free agent this summer.

He reflected on the season that was, his season specifically, winning the Eddie Shore Award, if he’s given any thoughts to his future plans, playing a lot this season, seeing young guns make their NHL debuts, growth for Jets D prospects and more.
