Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest Jets and Moose news, video and audio.

Note: The City of Winnipeg got shut down by a (quasi) snowmaggedon this week and last night the Winnipeg Jets also got shut down by the Florida Panthers as they were left in the dust almost from puck drop to the final buzzer when the final score showed the home side won 6-1. Not a good way to start off a four game road trip where every game is a must-win. And it won’t get any easier with the team now in Tampa where they will face the back-to-back Stanley Cup champs this evening. No morning skate for Winnipeg but stay tuned for the pre-game report to get the full 411 ahead of the game against the Lightning. Puck drop is at 6 PM CDT and following the final buzzer we want you to join the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show.

Note II: The Moose had some time to rest and some time to practice after they punched their ticket last weekend to the playoff dance for the first time since 2017-18. While they seem fairly locked into 2nd spot in the Central the two teams jockeying for position behind them are the Admirals (3rd) and IceHogs (4th). Today they face off against the IceHogs for the first of three straight contests. Puck drop is at 2 PM.

Note III: Be sure to join us on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show today at 9:00 am CT on our YouTube channel and social media platforms. We will be joined by Jeff Hamilton of the Winnipeg Free Press and Brian Engblom color analyst for the Lightning on Sun Sports.

Jets news:

Sportsnet: As season slips away, Jets’ Ehlers tells it like it is: ‘It absolutely sucks’. If you want someone who will tell it like it is, then bring out number 27 because he isn’t afraid to discuss the flaws in his team.

Winnipeg Sun: Slow, ponderous Winnipeg Jets mauled 6-1 by Florida Panthers. As they said on the Simpsons many, many years ago “there go the pretzels” and in this case the pretzels are the playoffs and while we knew that before the game it was further reinforced by the disastrous result.

Winnipeg Sun: Dubois, Lowry remember NHL legend Bossy. His numbers in an era that was pretty ridiculous for scoring were next level insane. I never met him but it sure sounds like he was a gentleman who was well regarded off the ice.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets do their own thing in loss. (Paywall). At least they didn’t try to sugarcoat the loss because too many times this season they lose the game and then try to point out the “good things” they did during the game as if they could build upon them. The reality is, and they know it and should have known  this for some time already, that it is too late for moral victories.

Global News: Huberdeau, Forsling each score twice as Panthers crush Jets 6-1. Scary part for the Jets was that the Panthers had two goals called off or the fans chant for “we want 10” could very easily have come to fruition.

Miami Herald: Jonathan Huberdeau builds Hart Trophy case with 2 goals, assist in Panthers’ rout of Jets. Read about the game from the perspective of a writer that covers the Jets opponent.

Jets video:

TSN: After disappointing season, where do Jets go from hereThe Jets fell to one of the league’s best road teams in the Panthers on Friday, another disappointing loss in a season where Winnipeg once again did not meet expectations. TSN’s Craig Button weighed in on where the Jets should go from here.
