Winnipeg Jets set to draft 18th overall at the 2021 NHL Draft

Due to Arizona losing their first round pick the Jets “18th” pick is actually number 17 for round 1.

With all the focus this week on looking back at the 2020-21 season with the Jets holding their end of season media availability it seems odd to be looking ahead but the folks at CapFriendly put out a tweet showing today of the draft order for the 2021 draft for teams knocked out of the second round.

According to CapFriendly the Jets will have the 18th overall pick although because the Arizona Coyotes were penalized with the loss of their 1st round pick Winnipeg will actually make the 17th overall selection in the 1st round.

The only time Winnipeg has taken a player 17th overall was Kyle Connor back in 2015.

Winnipeg currently have four picks including a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th.

This will be one hell of an interesting draft, perhaps the most interesting draft ever, given that a lot of prospects (especially the ones who would be taken after the 1st round) did not have a normal hockey season (i.e. No OHL season).

Now if you are like us and haven’t spent one second looking at the prospective draft picks for the 2021 draft check out these previews:
