Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest Jets and Moose news, video and audio.

Note: The Jets finally picked up a solid win as they defeated the Canucks 5-0 last night in Paul Stastny’s 1000th game. The victory means they clinched third spot in the North Division and a first-round date with the Oilers. The team was scheduled to practice today but cancelled it so no media availability.

Note II: The Moose looked like they were cruising to their sixth straight win last night as they had a 3-1 lead heading into the final frame but two 3rd period goals necessitated extra time. Eventually Manitoba would fall in the shootout which ended their win streak but maintained their points streak at 12 games (10-0-0-2).  They are off today.

Note III: The big news on Tuesday, which was broken on this site, is that Jets 2020 1st rounder Cole Perfetti is done in the AHL for the season as he’ll be joining Team Canada for the World Championship in Latvia.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets throttle depleted Canucks to clinch third in division. If ever there was a time the team needed a win in that manner it was last night. Paul provides his assessment of the game.

Winnipeg Sun: Wise beyond his years: Jets’ Stastny appreciates family history that led to 1,000th game. You hear the way he speaks in his media availabilities and it is clear he doesn’t want it to be about him and it is also clear that it is genuine. A true class act.

Winnipeg Free Press: Toninato sees first NHL action of year after season delayed by COVID. (Paywall).

Winnipeg Free Press: Stastny leaves indelible mark during short time with Jets. (Paywall). When you hear young players speak about the impact he has had on their careers it is obvious that his role on this team is much more than when his name shows up on the scoresheet.

Sportsnet: Canucks challenged to find motivation in final meaningless games. While I understand the sentiment, at the same time there are guys who have been killing themselves playing in the AHL with literally nothing to play for all season and with the way they played you’d think they were challenging for the Stanley Cup.

The Province: Horvat had some sizzle, but too much team fizzleAnother recap of last night’s game from the perspective of a writer that covers the Jets opponent.

Jets video:

TSN: Jets’ top line finds form against CanucksAfter scoring only 17 goals over their last 10 games, the Jets exploded for five goals against the Canucks. TSN Hockey analyst Jamie McLennan explains what went right for the Jets and it starts with the strong play of Mark Scheifele and their top line. As well, McLennan talks about how the Jets can prepare for the Oilers in the playoffs.

Sportnet: How much momentum can Jets carry over into series against Oilers? Sean Reynolds and Ken Wiebe discuss the Winnipeg Jets win over the Vancouver Canucks, including what they can bring into their matchup against the Edmonton Oilers.
