Winnipeg Jets overseas prospects report V

We take a look at what is happening with Jets prospects and players under contract overseas.

With the only pro hockey being played these days taking place overseas we will provide a regular update on what is happening with Jets prospects or players under contract with Winnipeg who are playing in the KHL, SHL, Liiga, DEL, DEL2 and HockeyAllsvenskan.

Worth noting that this was published in the morning and there were Liiga and HockeyAllsvenskan games on Wednesday night which would impact some of the numbers below which saw Joona Luoto popping bottles as he scored his fifth goal of the season and Kristian Vesalainen added an assist in an HPK 2-1 victory while over in Sweden David Gustafsson was ripping home his fifth of the season which looked a lot like his first ever NHL goal.

Players on loan:

1. David Gustafsson

Tingsryds AIF (HockeyAllsvenskan) 13 GP 4 goals 8 assists, averaging 19:16 of ice time per game.

Change since last week: No games since November 11th.  His squad is back in action tonight.

2. Ville Heinola

Lukko Rauma (Liiga): 13 GP 0 goals 8 assists, averaging 18:59 of ice time per game.

Change since last week: 2 GP no goals and 3 assists. average ice time up 39 seconds.

3. Mikhail Berdin

St. Petersburg SKA (KHL): 6-3-2, 2.49 GAA .916 save%

Change since last week: 1GP. Played the 1st period on Monday giving up two goals on 10 shots including this blooper before he got pulled.

4. Leon Gawanke 

Eisbären Polar Bears (DEL):  1 GP 0 goals o assists.  Played 15:14.

Change since last week: The DEL is underway as Gawanke fulfilled a childhood dream putting on a Polar Bear uniform when his squad played their first game of the season this past Friday.

5. Joona Luoto

IFK Helsinki (Liiga): 15 GP 4 goals 4 assists, averaging 18:09 of ice time per game.

Change since last week: 2 GP 1 goal, 2 assists, average ice time down 33 seconds.  His goal was a nice one.  His team is playing tonight.

6. Arvid Holm

Farjestads BK Karlstad (SHL): 5-5-1, 2.64 GAA .921 save%

Change since last week: 1GP 1 loss. Gave up four goals and was pulled after 22:06 of playing time stopping just 15 of 19 shots.

7. Kristian Vesalainen 

HPK (Liiga): 5 GP 4 goals 3 assists, averaging 21:43 of ice time per game.

Change since last week: 2 GP 1 goal 1 assist, average ice time down 49 seconds.  His goal showed off his ability to get the puck off his stick quickly.

8. Skyler McKenzie

EHC Freiburg (DEL2):  4 GP 2 goal 1 assist.

Change since last week: 2 GP 1 goal 1 assist.

9. Marko Dano

Trencin Dukla (Slovak League):  2 GP 2 goals 1 assist.

Change since last week: 1 GP 0 goals 0 assists.

Other Jets prospects in Europe:

1. Santeri Virtanen

SaiPa Lappeenranta (Liiga): 12 GP 2 goal 2 assist, averaging 16:47 of ice time per game.

Change since last week:  2GP 1 goal 0 assists. average ice time down 2 seconds.  Scored a nifty shorthanded goal.  They are back in action on Friday.

2. Henri Nikkanen

Jukurit Mikkeli (Liiga): 10 GP 1 goal 3 assists, averaging 18:54 of ice time per game.

Change since last week: 3 GP 0 goals o assists. average ice time down 18 seconds.  His team is facing off against Joona Luoto’s tonight.

3. Simon Lundmark

Linkopings HC (SHL): 8 GP 0 goals 2 assist, averaging 12:14 of ice time per game.

Change since last week: 3 GP no goals 1 assist, average ice time up 19 seconds.  Back in action on Thursday night.

4. Anton Johannesson

HV71 J20: Hasn’t played a game yet this season.

Change since last week: None.  Murat Ates of The Athletic Winnipeg reported that the Jets 2020 5th rounder is recovering from surgery on his foot.

5. Daniel Torgersson

Frölunda HC J20 (J20 Nationell): 10 GP 4 goals 5 assists.
Frölunda HC (SHL): 2 GP 0 goals 0 assists, averaging 3:22 of ice time per game.

Change since last week: None.  In that same report from Murat wrote this about the the Jets 2nd rounder from 2020 “Initial reports suggested a four to five month recovery but I’m also told it’s possible he misses the full SHL season.”.
