On the Beat: Draft talk and the Outdoor Game

What team beat writers are saying this afternoon:

  • Curtis Zupke takes a look back at Dan Wood’s article after the Ducks selected Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf in 2003.  You think the Ducks thought they’d be this good?
  • A new name for Hurricanes fans to be fixated on, Zach BudishAt 27, you have to have a lot of patience and contingency plans.
  • Mike Heika doesn’t think the Stars should trade down from number eight.  It all depends on the offer, but I can’t see the Stars actively looking to move the pick.  There are a number of very good players that are going to be available at that slot (both defensemen and forwards).
  • Michael Russo loves the NHL DraftIC will be live at the draft this year with up-to-the-minutes updates throughout the weekend.
  • It will be the Bruins versus the Flyers next season at Fenway Park.  Aside from the fact that this game is outside, it actually will be a great on-ice matchup.
  • Peter Laviolette doesn’t think he is a candidate for the Devils’ open coaching positionHe is a quality coach, but maybe Lamoriello is looking to go in another direction.  Either way, I don’t see Laviolette out of work for too long.

Remember that tonight on the IC Radio Show the crew will unveil the Illegal Curve First Round Mock Draft.
