NHL, NHLPA agree to Phase 3 which means Winnipeg Jets training camp opens July 10 (if all is well)

Phase 3 would get underway on July 10th.

A joint release today from the NHL and NHLPA:

The National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) and the National Hockey League (NHL) announced today that formal training camps (Phase 3) for the 24 teams resuming play will open on Friday, July 10, provided that medical and safety conditions allow and the parties have reached an overall agreement on resuming play. The length of training camp and, therefore, the start date for formal resumption of play (Phase 4) will be determined at a future date.

Of course for the Winnipeg Jets where training camp takes place remains a question.

Chris Johnston of Sportsnet adds this to the conversation:

“With NHL training camps on track for July 10, clarity is needed on the 14-day quarantine for those returning to Canada. It’s possible quarantine is extended to include the facility where players skate but, if not, we’ll likely see some Canadian teams hold camp in the U.S.”

Mitchell Clinton of JetsTV tweeted this about Manitoba’s Phase 3 plan which is set to begin on June 21st:

“From Manitoba’s proposed Phase 3 – People employed by or affiliated with a professional sports team may enter Manitoba without self-isolating for 14 days if they have self-isolated for 14 days before arriving in Manitoba and follow appropriate hygiene measures while travelling.”

Scott Billeck of the Winnipeg Sun who wears two hats as both a Jets reporter as well as currently covering the COVID-19 pandemic had this to say:

“Today’s provincial announcement re sports teams is one layer of two that needs to be lifted as far as the #NHLJets go. The federal quarantine rule is still the big issue. So today’s proposed change provincially doesn’t change much.”

When the Jets release details of their training camp we will have it posted here.
