In what is likely the easiest decision the NHL has had to make in awhile Jets sniper Patrik Laine has been named First Star of the Week for the week ending November 25/18.  In his last four games the Finnish phenom has 11 goals and while it likely didn’t factor in his five goals on Saturday did win a Winnipegger 1 million dollars.

This is the third time that Laine has been selected First Star of the Week (Feb 19th, 2017 & March 11th, 2018) and add in the one selection as Second Star (March 4th, 2018), gives him four selections overall.

Interesting stat from the Jets Release:

On the season, Laine leads the NHL with 19 goals and nine power play goals in 22 games played. His 16 goals in November are the most in a calendar month in franchise history and the most by an NHL player in any calendar month since 1996-97.

Considering there are still two more games left in November for the Jets it will be interesting to see how many goals the red-hot sniper will put into the back of the opposing net.  According to Tim Campbell, who writes for the NHL, the current record holders are Laine’s countryman Teemu Selanne who scored 20 goals in 14 games back in 1993 and Joe Malone who accomplished the feat back in 1921 in 9 games.

Following today’s practice Laine spoke about being selected as First Star of the Week as well as his five goal game:
