Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose news.

Note: The Jets were scheduled to hit the ice today for a 12 noon practice at the MTS Centre as they get ready for three more home games this week but they have cancelled in favour of conducting an off-ice team retreat.  So no media availability today.  This follows a big 6-1 win over the Avalanche last night.

Note II:  They looked like they’d hit five wins in a row but two 3rd period goals last night by the Admirals tied the game and Manitoba lost early into OT.  So the Moose now have a six game (4-0-1-1) points streak.  The Moose will end their four game road trip with an afternoon game today in Chicago with a 3 pm puck drop.  This will be their third game in three days.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets feast on lowly Avalanche.  No doubt about it the Jets were ready to rumble from the moment puck dropped.  Even Ben Chiarot was looking like Bobby Orr with that goal (his first) he scored last night.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets’ Hellebuyck rock solid once again.  That would have been the easiest shutout of Hellebuyck’s career had he been able to hold on for another 16 seconds in the 3rd period.

Winnipeg Free Press:  High-flying Jets bury Avalanche.  (Paywall).  The Jets are playing some of their best hockey of the season right now and they didn’t show any let down against an Avalanche team that showed very little interest in last night’s contest.

Denver Post:  Avalanche’s woes magnified in loss to Winnipeg Jets.  Read about the game with a Colorado perspective.

Sportsnet:  Paul Maurice, Jets put contract extension talks on hold.  The substance of the article isn’t as shocking as the headline.  Just hitting the pause button until the summer.

Sportsnet:  Why the Winnipeg Jets might be ‘better set up’ than the Maple Leafs.  (Audio).  Sportsnet Hotstove host Ben Ennis was joined by John Grigg and Arden Zwelling and they debated which of the two Canadian teams is in better standing for the future.  As an aside has Winnipeg vs. Toronto become an West Coast vs East Coast style rap beef?
