Game 55: Avalanche 5 Jets 2 post-game report

Post-game from the Jets dressing room as well as from Coach Maurice.

Recap:

It had all the makings of a let down game and that is just what happened as the Jets fell to the last place Avalanche by a final score of 5-2 this afternoon in Denver.  The Avs played a physical game with Nikita Zadorov punishing Mark Scheifele numerous times including a massive open ice hit at the Jets blue line.

The Avs came out with the early pressure and took a lead just five minutes into the opening frame as the Jets gave up a power play goal (eighth of last nine games they have allowed at least one PP goal).  While Adam Lowry managed to tie it up scoring his first goal since December 15th the tie wouldn’t last long.  A 2-1 lead for the home side stretched into a 3-2 lead after 40.  You may have expected a push in the 3rd from the visitors but instead the home side scored two minutes into the final frame to take what looked like an insurmountable two goal lead.  An empty netter sealed the deal.

The Jets finish this three game road trip with two wins and a loss.  Their nine game winning streak against the Central Division is now done.  They return home for four games at the MTS Centre starting with a game against the Wild on Tuesday.

Stats:

Audio:

Ondrej Pavelec:  On where the game went wrong.  How does he feel about his performance?  Was it one of those games that “just wasn’t meant to be” for the Jets?  On the fourth Avalanche goal.

Blake Wheeler:  How did he see the game?  Was fatigue a factor?  Did the disallowed goal factor in?  On the Zadorov hit on Scheifele.

Coach Maurice:  How did he see the game?  Any updates on Little and Scheifele?  Any update on Stafford?  Too many passengers?  What was his view of the goal that was disallowed?  His thoughts on the Zadorov hit on Scheifele.  What will his approach be to the next week?  When will he know when this team has turned the corner?
