Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Winnipeg Jets news.

Note:  The Jets flipped the script and beat the Canucks 4-1 last night and have now won three of their last four games.  Both the Jets and Moose (who are already on holidays) have some time off for the Christmas holidays for the next couple of days.  The Jets, I suspect (as we haven’t yet received next week’s schedule), will be back on the ice on the 26th as they prep to play the Blackhawks in Chicago on Tuesday.  The Moose are going to be home next week as they get ready to face Charlotte the following weekend.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Reports of Maurice’s pending exit are greatly exaggerated.  (Paywall).  Paul tackles the always fun rumours and speculation of a coaching exit.

Winnipeg Sun:  Reversal of fortunes for the Jets as they crank it up to earn split with Canucks.  The Jets went to the playbook of George Costanza from Seinfeld and did the exact opposite last night and what do you know…it worked.  Ted breaks down the game.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets almost back to full health.  The injury reports will soon fall by the wayside now that it is down to Tyler Myers as the lone representative on it.  Although coach Maurice did indicate that Brandon Tanev was nicked up so we will have to wait till Monday to get word of his status.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets turn tables on Canucks.  (Paywall).  The old flip the script as both teams manage to pull of 4-1 wins over the other during this unusual week in Vancouver.  Just how good has Nikolaj Ehlers been?  More on this line later on site.  Paul breaks down last night’s contest.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets future is brighter, but still unclear.  (Paywall).  If anyone can recall what used to happen with the Jets 1.0 and how it was always this would be a team that would be good eventually….fans don’t have much time for eventually.  They’d like results as would many of the veteran players on the roster.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Plenty of blame to go around in Jetsville.   (Paywall).  Scott holds some folks accountable and isn’t afraid to apportion blame where he sees fit.

Vancouver Sun:  Jets blow past Canucks after Laine levels Sedin.  It isn’t only his shot that is Alexander Ovechkin like as the kid likes to hit.

The Province:  Ehlers reminds Canucks fans about that 2014 draft.  If only the fans in B.C. had sent Nikolaj Ehlers as many tweets as folks did here in Manitoba.  He was a favouriting machine back in his junior days.  It worked out for Jets fans when their team took Ehlers three picks after the Canucks took Virtanen.  Read about the game from a beat writer who covers the Canucks.

FRS News:  Josh Morrissey is quietly having a breakout season in Winnipeg.  After some seasoning in the AHL he has made a nice transition to the NHL.

FRS News:  Bob McKenzie doesn’t think Maurice is in any trouble with the Jets.  Chris Nichols transcribed a chat TSN hockey insider Bob McKenzie on Vancouver’s TSN 1040 Thursday afternoon.

Jets 4 Canucks 1:

Illegal Curve:  Post-game recap.   Includes a recap, stats and audio from Michael Hutchinson, Nikolaj Ehlers and Coach Maurice.

Moose news:

Official Manitoba Site:  Reflecting on the first 28 games of the season.  As I noted earlier this week the Moose are well ahead of where they were last season.  In this blog post voice of the Moose Mitch Peacock looks back at the first 28 games.
