Winnipeg Jets Patrik Laine projected to be NHL’s Rookie of the Year runner-up

The second overall pick has been picked to finish second in Calder Cup voting.

NHL prop odds are out and Patrik Laine has been picked to finish (once again) second to the Leafs Auston Matthews for the Calder Memorial Trophy as NHL rookie of the Year.

I suspect that this is just the first year of many years that we will be seeing the Matthews/Laine battle for supremacy as top of the 2016 draft class.

A full list of the NHL prop odds for the Calder Cup via Bodog:

Auston Matthews (TOR)-160
Patrik Laine (WPG)+275
Dylan Strome (PHO)+800
William Nylander (TOR)+1000
Jimmy Vesey (NYR)+1200
Pierre-Luc Dubois (CLB)+1200
Jesse Puljujarvi (EDM)+1500

Interestingly another rookie who didn’t (but could) merit some consideration is Jets 2015 1st round pick Kyle Connor who has shown some good hands/vision/speed in the pre-season with three goals in all three games he has played for Winnipeg.

What do you think? Will Laine finish second? Do you see him winning the Calder Trophy? Do you care?
