Andrew Ladd’s trade to Chicago has set the hockey world a twitter (literally) this evening. Of course now that the first captain in Jets 2.0 history has departed for the windy city it begs the question: Who might replace him as captain of the Winnipeg Jets?
Currently Blake Wheeler and Mark Stuart wear the A.
Many fans seem to see Blake Wheeler as the natural next selection for Jets captain as he is a leader both on and off the ice. He is also signed until 2018-19 so you have some long term consistency to factor in.

While Dustin Byfuglien is a leader in the room he isn’t the most vocal player and I highly doubt he’d want to spend so much of his time chatting with us in media scrums.
Of course if the Jets were contemplating trying to sign Andrew Ladd on July 1st it would be a tad awkward if they had given away the C. Just food for thought.
Jets GM Cheveldayoff spoke to reporters tonight and said it may be premature to announce that. Said he would talk about it with coach Maurice.
Update: Today in Pittsburgh with 24 hours to reflect on the situation in his post practice scrum Jets coach Paul Maurice was asked about the situation with deciding who would wear the “C” for the Jets. This is what he had to say:
