Winnipeg Jets trade Leon Gawanke to the Sharks for Artemi Kniasev

When the Jets qualified RFA Leon Gawanke some folks were wondering why they did because he had signed a four year deal to play in the DEL after not getting an opportunity to play with the Jets. The fact is it gave Winnipeg a chance to recoup an asset which is what we discussed on yesterday’s Illegal Curve Hockey Show.

He had a career year for the Moose in the AHL which included setting the record for most goals by a defenceman in Manitoba history.

He is now part of the Sharks organization after he was dealt this morning for Artemi Kniasev. He’s a left shot Dman who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2019 draft. He made his NHL debut with San Jose during the 2021-22 season.
