Winnipeg Jets to recall Dominic Toninato to play against the Avalanche

The Jets were expected to rest a number of regulars tonight in their final game of the regular season in Colorado against the Avalanche. As per Ken Wiebe of Sportsnet the team will rest Pierre-Luc Dubois, Nikolaj Ehlers (injury concern), Josh Morrissey, Blake Wheeler, Mark Scheifele and Nate Schmidt.

In addition he indicated the team will recall Dominic Toninato from the Moose and that he will play tonight against the Avalanche (his former team for two seasons).

Toninato played last night in the Moose loss to the Stars in Texas scoring his 19th goal of the season.

I am a bit surprised they didn’t give leading scorer Alex Limoges a shot or to see Jeff Malott in what would have been just his second NHL game. Jansen Harkins has ripped it up since being assigned so he too could have been the one recalled.

Update:

According to Jets head coach Rick Bowness a number of players wanted to play in all 82 games for Winnipeg otherwise they may have ended up recalling four players and not just one. If it was me making the decision I’d still have recalled Leon Gawanke to make his NHL debut.
