This news isn’t exactly breaking since Scott Billeck of the Winnipeg Sun tweeted out the news on November 4th that Nino Niederreiter wanted to sign an extension in Winnipeg.
A few days later Billeck subsequently put it out there that Niederreiter’s camp was looking for a three to four year extension with a comparable similar to what the Wild gave Marcus Foligno (16 million for four years).
Today we learned that Winnipeg has signed the 31 year old to a three-year contract extension with an AAV of 4 million.
Which continues to dismiss the “Winnipeg cannot sign players” myth given the fact that Niederreiter would have been able to command decent money as a free agent had he taken that route this July.
We knew it was supposed to be an El Nino winter but it appears that will be extended past 2023-24 which folks in Manitoba will likely be quite happy about.
