The Jets are set to play in their third Heritage Classic later this month, and today the franchise revealed the “new look” jersey they’ll wear for the outdoor game. It looks similar to the one they wore in 2016 but it’s actually closer to the 2019 version.
The distinction comes down to which era of Jets history each jersey represents. The white sweater Winnipeg wore for the 2016 Heritage Classic was based on the franchise’s 1970s WHA look and logo. This new version instead pays tribute to the Jets’ look from the 1980s and 1990s.
That makes it much more closely related to the navy Heritage Classic jersey introduced for the 2019 game in Regina. In fact, the NHL describes the new white jersey as a complement to the Jets’ current navy alternate, using the same classic-era identity but reversing the colour treatment.
The new sweater also features felt and chain-stitched detailing on the crest, two-layer felt numbers and a new streaking-jet Heritage Classic graphic on the hem.
