The Winnipeg Jets announced they have recalled goaltender Connor Hellebuyck from the St. John’s IceCaps of the American Hockey League.
Hellebuyck, 21, is coming to the end of his rookie pro season in the American Hockey League. The product of Commerce, MI has played in 58 games for the St. John’s IceCaps this season, compiling a 2.58 goals against average, .921 save percentage, and six shutouts. His impressive play as a rookie garnered a selection to the 2015 AHL All-Star Classic. Prior to turning pro, Hellebuyck spent two remarkable seasons with UMass-Lowell of the NCAA’s Hockey East Conference. As a sophomore in 2013-14, Hellebuyck was honoured with the Mike Richter Award as the top goaltender in college hockey. He was originally drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the fifth round, 130th overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft.
